Map Layer Definition

A map layer is listed in the Contents window as the map type name (i.e. "Contours"). A single map layer or multiple map layers can be part of a map object. For example, a map can have a "Contours" layer and a "Base" layer. Click on the map layer (i.e. "Contours") to display the properties in the Properties window for the selected map type (i.e. contour map properties). The specific properties related to the map type are controlled. The View, Scale, Limits, Frame, and Coordinate System of a map are controlled by the "Map" object in which the map layer is contained.
