What Happens When I Double-Click on a .SRF File in Windows?
Surfer .SRF files can be opened in Surfer using the File | Open command. When the File | Open command is used, the file opens in the existing Surfer window.
Surfer .SRF files can also be opened by double-clicking on the .SRF file in Windows Explorer (My Computer). When a .SRF file is double-clicked in Windows Explorer, the file will open with the following rules:

If an existing Surfer window is not open, the .SRF file will open in a new Surfer window.

If an existing Surfer window is open and no dialogs are open, the .SRF file will open as a new plot document in the existing Surfer window.

If an existing Surfer window is open and a dialog is open or Surfer is busy, the .SRF file will open in a new Surfer window.
