AVS Field .FLD File Description

The AVS Field data set file format originated with the AVS5 and AVS/Express applications. The data set consists of a file with the file name extension .FLD, which describes the data set; plus possibly one or more additional data files referenced if the data are not contained within the .FLD file itself.

Surfer imports and exports several different types of data from AVS Field data sets.

Loading .FLD Files

AVS Field .FLD files can be loaded to create a grid based map (i.e. Home | New Map | Contour) with the Open Grid dialog, or when using the functions in the Grid menu.

Import Options Dialog

No import options dialog is displayed. During import, any external data files referenced from within the .FLD file are assumed to reside in the same directory where the .FLD file resides.

Import Automation Options

No import options are available.

Saving Files

Use the Grids | Edit | Convert command in the plot document, or File | Save As in the Grid Editor to export .FLD files. Alternatively, the AVS Field .FLD file format is available when prompted to save a grid file.

Export Options

Exported AVS data sets always place the data values inside the .FLD file, not in external data files.
