Surfaces General Properties

Surfer can automatically Create Surface for each contact you have defined from your drillhole data. These surfaces, which are visible in the 3D view, are defined by the contact points and can be further customized. Before creating surfaces, you must first create contacts for your drillholes using Create Contact.

When you select the Surfaces group in the Contents window, the Properties window will display General and Gridding tabs for the contact surfaces.

You can edit the individual surfaces created from contacts. To access these options, select the individual surface within the Drillhole | <Drillhole Layer Name> | Surfaces section of the Contents window. In the Properties window select the General and Conflicts tab to view the surface editing options.

  • General

    • Save all grids: Click the Save all grids button to save the grid files for all the surfaces. You will have the option to select the folder to save them to and the file format for the grid files. You can also click 3D View | Drillhole Surfaces | Save All Grids on the ribbon.

  • Topography: To create a topography surface at the top of the model, check the Create surface box under Topography. You can then select a data source for the surface:

    • Top of drillhole: Uses the top of the drillhole, or the Z value in the Collars table..

    • Start depth: Uses the starting depth from the collars table.

    • First data: Uses the first data point from the surface, note that this may not be at the top of the hole.

    • Grid file: Allows you to load an existing grid file for the ground surface.

  • Base: To create a surface at the base of the model, check the Create surface box under Base. You can choose a data source for the surface:

    • End depth: Uses the end depth values from the collars table.

    • Last data: Uses the last data point from the drillhole, note that this may not be at the bottom of the hole.

    • Grid file: Allows you to load an existing grid file for the base surface.
